4 Wheaton Group Agents Awarded 'Agent of The Year' for 2021

January 20, 2022

Quicken Loans Front Porch Food Drive 2021 - Lisa Fontana1.jpgWheaton World Wide Moving has been a partner with Move For Hunger since our founding in 2009, and has been instrumental in helping us expand our network of professional moving companies!

Since joining Move For Hunger as a partner, Wheaton has grown to include Bekins Van Lines, Stevens Van Lines, and Arpin Van Lines, all of which are also essential partners with Move For Hunger. Combining about 30 different agents under the Wheaton Group banner, they transported more than 206,000 lbs of food, which is nearly 172,000 meals, to food insecure communities across the country in 2021!

This includes the 25,000 meals raised at the Wheaton Group Truck Pull in October, which coincided with their 66th Annual Partnership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. From the truck pull, event sponsors and the Wheaton Group donated a total of $10,000 to Move For Hunger!

We are grateful and excited to announce the 2021 Agents of the Year for their outstanding support of our mission and for being constant advocates of fighting hunger and reducing food waste:Sodexo Front Porch 2021 Food Drive - Jennifer Andrews7.jpg

Wayfinder Moving Services, a Bekins Van Lines agent, based in Buffalo, New York.

Cousins USA Moving & Storage, a Stevens Worldwide Van Lines agent, based in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Daly Movers, an Arpin Van Lines agent, based in Garden Grove, California.

These agents did a wonderful job helping reduce hunger and food waste through their Front Porch Food Drives, fundraisers, and volunteering to help with donation transports. We couldn’t be more thankful for their consistent support of Move For Hunger, and we look forward to seeing their impact in 2022!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
