Beltmann Relocation Group and the Arizona Relocation Alliance raise $21,000 at the Arizona Truck Pull!

April 18, 2019

Our friends in the desert sure know how to throw a good party! This past Saturday, our partners at Beltmann Relocation Group, along with members of the Arizona Relocation Alliance, held the first-ever Arizona Truck Pull to benefit Move For Hunger. More than $21,000 was raised for our food waste reduction and hunger relief efforts and a good time was had by all.

DSC_0208.JPGThe event was hosted at Uncle Bear's Brewery, Tap Room & Yard in Gilbert, Arizona. Teams of 5-10 people competed to see who could pull a Beltmann Relocation truck 100 feet in the fastest time. The Gilbert Fire and Rescue Department was crowned Truck Pull Champion, with the Olmstead Team and Friends coming in a close second. Although it takes brute strength and speed, all teams were able to pull the Beltmann truck in good time!

In addition to pulling the truck, the event had a raffle complete with a signed football by Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson and signed basketball from Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton, along with free rounds of golf. Southwest Airlines donated snacks for the event, with their famed airplane cookies and crackers available for everyone. A food truck also kept the crowd full while the brewery served some delicious beer to make sure everyone was  properly hydrated.

This successful event wouldn't be possible without the incredible support of our sponsors. Beltmann Relocation Group, the Arizona Relocation Alliance, ArcBest, Victory Packaging, Movers Specialty Service, Kentucky Trailer, and ChoiceLocal and others all contributed to help fight hunger and food waste in the relocation industry. A big thanks goes to Jason Vargas and his team at Beltmann Relocation Group as they literally took the event and ran with it!

Thank you again to everyone who came out, participating in and volunteered to help make this event a success - it was trucking awesome!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
