AVE Holds 5th Annual Hunger Action Month Food Drive

November 19, 2019

As a partner since 2015, AVE has never let us down. Every September to celebrate Hunger Action Month, AVE organizes food drives to be held at each of their locations, and this year was no exception.

AveHungerActionMonthFoodDrive2019-Union(1).jpgAll 13 of AVE’s properties participated in this year’s food drive, spreading from New Jersey and Pennsylvania to California. At the end of the month, the donations were totaled and the properties collected 2,480 lbs. of food combined, which is enough to provide more than 2,000 meals! The drives were a complete success, as the properties were able to donate 500 lbs. more than they did in 2018.

The food drives were made possible with the help of several of our moving partners, who volunteered to deliver all of the donations to local food banks.

Shamrock Moving & Storage of San Francisco volunteered to pick up the donations from 2 properties and deliver them to San Francisco Marin Food Bank.

Crown Relocations of New York picked up food from 3 different locations and delivered them all to Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

Harrington Moving & Storage proceeded to pick up donations from the Florham Park location, to also deliver them to Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

The Gentle Giant Moving Company of Philadelphia volunteered to pick up the donations from 2 more properties, and then delivered them both to Philabundance.

Two Men and a Truck of West Chester/Philadelphia picked up donations from the Lansdale property, and delivered them to The Salvation Army in West Chester.

Last but not least, Wayne Moving & Storage, an Atlas Van Lines agent, picked up food from 4 locations and dropped them off at the West Chester Food Cupboard.

More than 41 million Americans, including 1 in 6 children, face food insecurity. Thank you to everyone at AVE, and to all of our moving partners, for fighting hunger during Hunger Action Month!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
