The National Junior Honor Society at ASPIRA Academy, a school in Newark, DE, wanted to hold a food drive during the holiday season, but they needed a little help. We were happy to provide it!
Helping businesses, schools, and individuals fight hunger in their community is what Move For Hunger does best. From December 2-13, we worked with the students and teachers at ASPIRA Academy to collect non-perishable food - such as canned goods, pasta, rice, beans, and cereal - to help spread the joy during the holidays. First, we created flyers that ASPIRA Academy could hang up throughout the school to spread the word about the food drive. Then, we contacted our friends at American Van & Storage, who dropped off boxes for the collection.
In just two weeks, nearly 1,900 lbs. of food was collected, which is the equivalent of nearly 1,600 meals! American Van & Storage also volunteered to pick up all of the donations and deliver it to the Food Bank of Delaware.
More than 117,300 people in Delaware are food insecure, including 1 in 6 children. Thank you ASPIRA's National Junior Honor Society and American Van & Storage for working together to help set the table for your neighbors in need.
Move For Hunger makes it easy for anyone to hold a food drive. Start planning yours today!
