Armstrong Relocation Companies and Move For Hunger Announce Partnership

April 6, 2018

MEMPHIS, TN – Armstrong Relocation & Companies has partnered with Move For Hunger, a national non-profit organization, to help fight hunger across the United States and Canada. As a partner, Armstrong Relocation & Companies will support Move For Hunger’s efforts to reduce food waste and fight hunger nationwide; to date, the non-profit’s network of relocation professionals has collected and delivered more than 10 million pounds of food – providing more than 8.2 million meals – to food banks and pantries in the communities they serve.

When people move, they often throw out a good deal of “stuff.” Unfortunately, much of this stuff is food that could be delivered to a family in need, rather than left behind. Armstrong Relocation & Companies has 27 locations across the United States that are collecting those non-perishable food items from their customers and delivering them directly to their local food banks. The service is free to customers and turns every move into an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate, simply by donating the cans and non-perishables on moving day.

“More than 42 million Americans face hunger each and every day. Meanwhile, 40% of the food produced in the United States is wasted,” explains Adam Lowy, Executive Director and Founder of Move For Hunger. “Without partners like Armstrong Relocation & Companies, we would not be able to continue our mission of getting food to the people who need it most.”

“We consider it a privilege to partner with Move for Hunger across the country,” said Amanda Watson-Johnson, Executive Vice President of Armstrong Relocation & Companies. “It is truly a blessing to be able to offer our customers a vehicle through which they can give back to their local food banks during the moving process. All of our offices are extremely dedicated to serving their respective communities, and this partnership is yet another way for our family of companies to work unified to provide meals for those in need.”

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
