Arizona Relocation Alliance Completes The 100 Can Challenge!

October 11, 2018

We all know that meetings at work can sometimes be a little mundane. The truth of it all is that they don't have to be! If you're looking for a way to to add some more excitement to your next work gathering, we recommend following in the footsteps of the Arizona Relocation Alliance. Not only did their team get together at their local Topgolf, but they were also encouraged to collect 100 cans of non-perishable food for their local food bank.

We call this particular food drive the 100 Can Challenge, and it's one of our Featured Campaigns. We love food drives like this because they are lots of fun, and provide a great source of inspiration for those involved. It was so great to hear that the Arizona Relocation Alliance wanted to incorporate the challenge into their fall meeting, and we are very happy to report that they completed it! Nearly 200 pounds of food was collected by the end of the September evening, which is enough to provide 166 meals for Arizona families in need! The donations were then picked up by All My Sons Moving & Storage of Phoenix and were delivered to the PV Emergency Food Bank.

More than 1 million people in Arizona are food insecure, including 1 in 5 children. Thank you so much to the Arizona Relocation Alliance and All My Sons Moving & Storage of Phoenix for taking the time to make a difference in their community. We hope to see them challenge themselves once again at their next meeting!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
