April 2020 Mover of the Month: Just-In Time Moving & Storage

May 7, 2020

Each month, we highlight one of the moving companies in our network for their extraordinary commitment to fighting hunger in their community. We are excited to announce that Just-In Time Moving & Storage, has been named our Mover of the Month for April 2020!

JITMovingApril2020.jpgSince the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Just-In Time Moving & Storage has been delivering emergency food bags from the United Food Bank's warehouse in Mesa, AZ to its drive through distribution center. The crew has been making bi-weekly deliveries for the Food Bank, which has seen an exponential increase in the number of people who need assistance.

In April, Just-In Time Moving transported more than 127,000 lbs. of food, which provided approximately 105,000 meals to children, families, seniors, and vulnerable communities who are facing hunger during the pandemic.

"Just-In Time Moving & Storage was founded on the principles of treating others like we want to be treated," said George Phillips, Business Development Manager. "Giving back to our community is a big part of that, and Move For Hunger gives us the platform to be able to help the most."

Maricopa County has one of the highest rates of food insecurity in the country. More than 570,000 people in the county, including 1 in 5 children, were facing hunger even before COVID-19 shut down businesses, closed schools, and disrupted the food supply chain. It's clear that we'll be dealing with the impact of the coronavirus for months to come, and Just-In Time Moving & Storage has pledged to help for as long as they have to.

"We are very grateful that the American Moving & Storage Association introduced us to Move For Hunger," Phillips said. "We look forward to working together for a long time to help reduce food waste and fight hunger."

In addition to the award, Just-In time Moving & Storage will also be receiving Move For Hunger truck decals for their entire fleet.

Congratulations to Just-In Moving & Storage on this much-deserved recognition! Thank you for helping us fight hunger during this difficult time.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
