AMLI Residential Holds Thanksgiving Food Drive

AMLI Residential, a member of our Multi-Family Apartment Community Program partners, held their first ever Thanksgiving Food Drive between November 11th through the 25th. All six Chicago area locations participated in the event, and together they collected a total of 1,466 lbs. of food, which will provide more than 1,200 meals to their neighbors in need!

AmliThanksgivingfooddrive2019-AMLIRiverNORTH(2).jpg Each branch donated at least 50 lbs. of food, but AMLI 900 led the way by collecting 520 lbs. of stuffing, canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, and other Thanksgiving staples! AMLI also held a social media contest to see which property could come up with the most creative donation display, with AMLI River North claiming the title.

Our partners at CORT volunteered to pick up all of the donations from each property and delivered them to a local food bank.

In Cook County, more than 630,000 people are facing hunger, including 1 in 8 children. We want to thank the employees of all of AMLI Residential’s Chicago locations for their generous donations, and to the volunteers from CORT of Chicago for assisting with the transportation!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
