Rachuba Management Holds Raffle, Raises $705 to Help Fight Hunger

June 21, 2019

Rachuba Management held a fundraiser for Move For Hunger at all of their properties during May. Any resident who made a $10 donation to support our food rescue and hunger relief programs was entered into a raffle for a chance to win a 50″ HD-TV! A grand total of $705 was donated, and Daniel Grone of Eldersburg, MD was the lucky winner of the brand new TV.

"This month-long campaign created excitement for our community as we watched our contributions grow," said Tracey Martin, Rachuba's Regional Property Manger. "Special thanks to everyone that made a contribution and to the Move for Hunger Team for organizing the event!"

Rachuba Management is a third generation family business that provides a wide variety of real estate services in the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan region a. They are also a member of our Multi-Family Apartment Program. When residents at Rachuba properties move out, they are given the opportunity to donate any non-perishable food they don’t want to take with them. One of our transportation partners volunteers to pick up all of the donations and delivers them to the local food bank.

Nearly 380,000 in the Capital Area are facing hunger, including 1 in 8 children. Thank you so much to Rachuba Management for hosting this fundraiser and to all of the residents who donated! Your support keeps us moving – make a donation to Move For Hunger today!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
