$12,500 Raised at the Inaugural Charlotte Truck Pull

November 21, 2019

The extra chill in the Charlotte air on Saturday, November 16, did not affect the warm support shown to Move For Hunger from our Charlotte Truck Pull sponsors, pullers, and attendees. More than 200 people came out to Lenny Boy Brewing Company to pull a truck, to cheer on family or friends, and to enjoy a day filled with music, balloon artists, drinks, and much more. The event raised $12,500 to support our programs and boxes of food were collected on site to be donated to a local food bank.

CharlotteTruckPull2019 (116)_MYMOVE.JPGTwelve teams entered the contest to claim the title of fastest truck pullers in the Tar Heel State and many came with plenty of flair on full display. One of the MYMOVE teams, Haulin’ Oats, came dressed in full 80’s gear and now has a claim to be one of the only teams in Move For Hunger truck pull history to have pulled in mullet wigs. The teams weren’t the only ones coordinated for the pull. The event also had one of the loudest cheering sections we’ve ever seen, complete with signs and pompoms to support their favorite pullers. And, to round out the notable achievements of this event, the winning team ‘Tate Tuggers’ from Allen Tate Realtors completed their pull in roughly 15 seconds, which is one of the fastest times of all the truck pulls we’ve held this year.

This amazing Truck Pull would not have been possible without the support of the Charlotte Metro Area Relocation Council, our event planning committee, headed by Kati Keith and supported by several other members crucial to the event’s success, including representatives from our Title Sponsor, Ben Mark from MYMOVE, and our Truck Sponsor, Monty Miller from Suddath. A big thank you also goes out to Hilldrup for not only being a sponsor and bringing an awesome mini-truck for kids to play on during the event, but for also sending a team despite the unexpected passing of its General Manager, Jim Myers.

Many thanks to everyone involved in making the Charlotte Truck Pull a banner event, including all of our sponsors: MYMOVE, Suddath, the Charlotte Metro Area Relocation Council, Cottingham Chalk Realtors,  CarsArriveDickens Mitchener Residential Real Estate, Hilldrup, All American Trucking & TransportA Home On The GoArmstrong RelocationQuicken LoansMorningstar Storage at South EndRawson Realty, Allen Tate Realtors and Lenny Boy Brewing Company. Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
