RMK Management Properties Collect 1,000 + LBS. of Food

April 1, 2019

In February, RMK Management celebrated Valentine's Day by holding Spread the Love Food Drives at 20 of their 20 properties in Illinois, Minnesota, and Indiana.

Throughout the month, they asked their residents to donate non-perishable food, especially peanut butter and jelly, to help provide meals for their neighbors in need. Peanut butter is one of the most highly-requested items by food banks because it's kid-friendly and is a great source of protein!

The RMK Management properties collected a grand total of 1,010 lbs. of food, which is the equivalent of 840 meals! The Chicago and Minneapolis branches of CORT, as well as the Chicago branch of Noffs/Atlantic Relocation Systems and Prager Moving & Storage, Atlas Van Lines agents, and Shur-Way Moving & Storage, a National Van Lines agent, brought the peanut butter and jelly donations to their local food banks.

More than 41 million people in America, including nearly 13 million children, are food insecure.  Thank you to RMK Management, their properties, CORT, Noffs/Atlantic Relocation Systems, Atlas Van Lines, Shur-Way Moving & Storage, and National Van Lines for helping us spread the love and fight hunger in the United States!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
