Partner Profiles | National Van Lines

February 6, 2018

National Van Lines has been an official partner of Move For Hunger since 2014. Twenty-one of their agents are currently members of our network and are collecting non-perishable food from their customers and delivering them to food banks/pantries in the communities they serve. National Van Lines agents have also volunteered their time and resources to help out with food drives, and their executives have joined Team Move For Hunger to help turn miles into meals.

Since joining the Move For Hunger network in 2014, National Van Lines agents have delivered more than 170,000 pounds of food to food banks all across the United States – providing nearly 142,000 meals to their neighbors in need. Here's a look back at some of the amazing things National Van Lines has done over the past 4 years.

Pete’s Moving Services held their first-ever Fill-A-Truck food drive on January 20, 2018. The Modesto, CA-based movers stationed one of their trucks outside of O’Brien’s Market, a local grocery store, and asked shoppers to donate enough non-perishable food to fill the entire trailer. Nearly 500 lbs. of food was collected in just 3 hours, which is the equivalent of 415 meals!

Atlantic Coast Moving & Storage Volunteers to Help at NJ Jeep Invasion

The New Jersey Jeep Invasion is a weekend-long beach party in Wildwood, NJ. Hundreds of Jeep owners attended in 2017 and donated non-perishable food items in exchange for a chance to win more than 100 prizes. More than 7,800 pounds of food was donated — enough to provide 6,500 meals! It would not have been possible without  Atlantic Coast Moving & Storage, who helped us collect food and delivered all of the donations to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s Southern Branch.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
