Midwest Moving & Storage Donates Nearly 300 LBS. of Food to School Food Pantry

January 11, 2018

Midwest Moving & Storage, a Stevens Van Lines agent, held a Fill-A-Truck food drive from November 20-December 18 to help fight hunger in Illinois during the holiday season.

Local residents were asked to donate non-perishable food, such as peanut butter, tuna fish, canned soup, and canned fruits/vegetables, to help provide meals for their neighbors in need. Donations were accepted at Midwest Moving & Storage's office in Elk Grove, as well as the Schaumburg Business Association in Schaumburg, and the GOA Regional Business Association in Itasca. Nearly 300 lbs. of food was collected in total, enough to provide 230 meals!

All of the donations were delivered to the School District 54 Food Pantry at Margaret Mead Junior High, courtesy of Midwest Moving & Storage.

"We are looking forward to doing this again next year and already have some feedback for ideas from some of our helpers," said Kari-Ann Ryan, Corporate Brand Ambassador for Midwest Moving & Storage.

There are more than 1.5 million people in Illinois, including 1 in 6 children, who are struggling with food insecurity every day. Thank you to the crew at Midwest Moving & Storage for helping to raise awareness about the crisis facing your community.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
