HD Auston Moving Systems Holds Their First Food Drive!

December 7, 2018

There are currently 40 million people in the United States who are struggling with food insecurity. At Move For Hunger, we are committed to shrinking this number for good, and it's our dedicated and kind movers that can make it all possible. One of those movers is HD Auston Moving Systems in Greenville, SC.

After joining our network last year, HD Auston decided to dedicate the fall season to giving back to the community. Their plan? A food drive! The team had never hosted a one before, but with Thanksgiving quickly approaching, they knew that the timing could not be anymore perfect. After setting up boxes, and encouraging the community to bring donations, we are happy to report that HD Auston collected nearly 250 pounds of food! That's enough to provide more than 206 meals!

After the drive, all the donations were delivered to Harvest Hope Food Bank in Columbia. The food collected will go straight to helping the 687,000 people, including 1 in 6 children, in South Carolina who are food insecure.

Thanks so much to HD Auston for taking the time to make a difference and help provide Thanksgiving meals for families in need. We are so happy that we could be a part of your first food drive and hope to do many more with you!

Thanksgiving may be over, but fighting hunger is a year-round job! Click here to host a food drive.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
