ERA Real Estate Collects 56,400+LBS. of Food During Feed the Need Food Drive!

March 8, 2019

We partnered with ERA Real Estate to hold the first-ever Feed the Need Food Drive from November 27-December 21 to celebrate the season of giving.

For four weeks, boxes filled with non-perishable food items, such as granola bars, pasta, cereal, and peanut butter were taken directly from ERA brokerages straight to local food banks and pantries.

Although the drive was originally slated to end on December 11, food was collected through December 21 due to the overwhelming positive response and amount of donations.

74 ERA affiliated brokerages, representing more than 160 offices and 6,000+ agents, collaborated to collect a grand total of 56,445 lbs. of food, which amounts to 47,000 meals to help fill food pantries during the holiday season!

"Our affiliates have been creative in incentivizing their agents, employees and clients to get involved," said Stephanie Reyna, national vice president of growth & engagement for ERA Real Estate. "The results are streaming across social media in order to further awareness of the human need in their communities and the role we can all play in helping out."

"ERA's dedication to fighting hunger in communities across the country has resulted in an incredible partnership," said Adam Lowy, founder and executive director of Move For Hunger. "It's been amazing to watch the collaborative efforts between our organizations as we've come together to effect change on such a vast scale."

More than 41 million people, including 1 in 6 children, in the United States are food insecure. Thank you to our friends at ERA Real Estate for making a difference in your community and embracing the season of giving!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
