Crown Relocations is a Big Help in the Big Apple

October 25, 2018

New York City is a place where something's happening every minute. In a city so big and sprawling it can be hard to keep track of issues such as food insecurity. From October 1-12, however, four hotels in the Big Apple held food drives and collected 450 lbs. of non-perishables for The Food Bank of New York City. Getting all that food to the Food Bank, however, is a whole another challenge. That's where Move For Hunger can help!

Our partners from Crown Relocations volunteered to pick up the donations from each of the four participating hotels and delivered them all to the Food Bank. If you've ever tried to maneuver a car through the streets of Manhattan, you'll appreciate what a logistical feat it was for a moving truck! Crown's assistance meant much more than that, though. Transportation is a significant and sometimes prohibitive expense for food banks. Because of Crown's help, the Food Bank will be able to allocate the resources they would have had to spend on this food drive to some of their other programs.

More than 1.2 million people in New York City face hunger every single day, including 1 in 5 children. Thank you to Bob, Jennifer, Lisa, and the rest of the team from Crown Relocations for always being a company we know we can count on!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
