Crown Moving & Storage Holds a Thanksgiving Food Drive!

November 15, 2018

Crown Moving & Storage, a Wheaton World Wide Moving agent, has been a long time partner of ours and they have done a lot of amazing work in the Indianapolis community. This year, they felt it was imperative to hold a food drive and lend a helping hand to the families in their community.

CrownMovingAndStorageThanksgivingFoodDrive2018-(3)-web.jpgFrom October 29-November 9, Crown Moving & Storage hosted a Thanksgiving food drive to help provide holiday meals for their neighbors in need. They also recruited several local businesses to assist with the effort. The Wheaton/Bekins corporate office, New York Life, and VMS Biomarketing all held food drives, as well!

When all was said and done, more than 3,000 lbs. of stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, canned vegetables, instant potatoes, pie filling, and other non-perishable food had been collected, which is enough to provide 2,500 meals! Crown Moving & Storage personally delivered all of the donations to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

Crown Moving & Storage was one of the first companies to join our network back in 2009. Over the past 9+ years, they have delivered more than 9,300 lbs. of food - that's the equivalent to 7,700 meals.

910,000 people in Indiana face hunger every day, including 1 in 6 children. We'd like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Crown Moving & Storage, and to everyone at Wheaton/Bekins, New York Life, and VMS Biomarketing for helping set the table for families in your community!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
