Each month, Move For Hunger chooses a community that displays a dedication to ending hunger. One of our newest communities, Verona Apartments, has been awarded Community of the Month for August 2023!
Verona Apartments in Henderson, Nevada, collected over 700 pounds of food during the MG Properties Shark Week Food Drive, providing over 590 meals to those struggling with food insecurity in the nearby community.
1 in 5 children in Nevada face hunger, and over 35% of Nevada households receiving SNAP benefits have children. Food Drives during Shark Week in July aim to help food insecure families throughout the summer when children are on vacation and are no longer receiving meals at school. Tuna is a high-protein food that is frequently requested by food banks, so it is a good item to donate.
“Our motivation to partner with Move For Hunger, was because our community is living in poverty and so many families have food insecurities," said Ronna Donner, Assistant Manager. "We wanted to provide a little support and stress off them with contributing any way we can. Right now, it is hard times and for some families they must choose between food on the table or roof over their head."

Donations from the Verona Apartments Food Drive were picked up by Champion Movers and transported to Three Square Food Bank, which services the Henderson community.
