Partnership between Crown Relocations and Caputo's Fresh Market Making a Huge Difference this Summer

July 17, 2017

Caputo’s Fresh Market and Crown Relocations of Chicago have a long-standing partnership to make sure their local food pantry is stocked with fresh foods. Each week, Crown Relocations picks up and donates upwards of 1,000 pounds to the York Township Food Pantry. They mostly rescue fresh fruits, dairy, and meats from Caputo’s, which are some of the more sought-after items by food pantries. Since the beginning of June, Crown Relocations has delivered nearly 10,500 pounds of food -- that's 8,750 meals -- to their neighbors in need.

"Everybody really enjoys helping out. I do it every Thursday and I invite everybody down to help. It’s really cool that the company allows me the time to do this," said Guy Stroczynski, the Warehouse Operations Manager of Crown Relocations.

More than 68,000 people in DuPage County are struggling with food insecurity. Thank you to the team at Crown Relocations of Chicago for making time to make a difference during the summer, and all year long.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
