Move For Hunger Welcomes Two New Members to Its Board of Directors

Every pound of food Move For Hunger delivers depends on people who believe food should go to communities, not landfills. From moving companies and transportation partners to donors, volunteers, and food banks, our network makes that work possible.

Today, we are announcing the addition of two leaders whose experience will help guide Move For Hunger's next phase of growth. Welcome to the Move For Hunger Board of Directors: Travis Lawrence and Jennifer Saenz.

Together, they bring experience in two areas that are essential to our work: logistics and brand leadership.

"When it comes to Board members, we're always thinking about who has the tools and passion to truly advance Move For Hunger's mission. Travis and Jennifer's combined expertise across logistics, storytelling, people, and CPG make them uniquely qualified to help launch our organization into its next chapter of growth."

Welcoming Travis Lawrence: A Supply Chain and Logistics Powerhouse

When your mission relies on moving millions of pounds of food across North America, having a supply chain and logistics expert on your board can help shape how you grow.

Travis Lawrence currently serves as the Chief People Officer at HD Supply, where he leads human resources and communications for more than 12,000 associates. Before stepping into his current role, Travis spent over 30 years at The Home Depot, holding key leadership positions across retail logistics, distribution centers, delivery fleet operations, transportation, and global sourcing.

Travis holds a master's degree in transportation and supply chain management from the University of Denver, giving him a deep technical understanding of the exact systems Move For Hunger relies on every day. His operational experience will help us continue building a stronger moving network and move more food to communities that need it.

Welcoming Jennifer Saenz: A Leader in Brand Building

Reaching more supporters and partners is essential to growing our impact, and Jennifer brings decades of experience doing exactly that.

Jen joins our board after a remarkable career building some of the most recognizable consumer brands in the world. Most recently, she served as Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Albertsons Companies. Prior to Albertsons, Jen spent 16 years at PepsiCo, culminating in her role as Global Chief Marketing Officer and President of Global Foods.

Her work has been recognized by Fast Company's "Most Creative People," AdWeek's Brand Genius Award, and Brand Innovators' Top 100 Women in Marketing. She currently serves on the corporate boards of ZipRecruiter and Carbios, and she holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Jen is passionate about giving back to her community and is dedicated to the fight against food insecurity. She is joining the Move For Hunger Board of Directors to help more people understand and support Move For Hunger's mission. One thing you should know about Jen: Her favorite meals are the ones shared with family, and she never turns down a good homemade taco.

Building the Future of Move For Hunger

The addition of Travis and Jennifer comes at an important time for Move For Hunger. Since 2009, our network has rescued and delivered more than 84.9 million pounds of food to food banks across the United States and Canada, the equivalent of over 70.8 million meals. As demand for food assistance continues to rise, the expertise that Travis and Jennifer bring will help us scale our impact, strengthen our partnerships, and reach even more families in need.

Please join us in giving Travis and Jennifer a warm welcome to the Move For Hunger family. We cannot wait to see what we will accomplish together.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
