Move For Hunger receives a $15,000 Grant from the OceanFirst Foundation

October 22, 2020

Move For Hunger was once again a recipient of a generous donation from the OceanFirst Foundation, a foundation that empowers nonprofits to help make life better for those living in neighborhoods served by OceanFirst Bank in southern New Jersey. Also calling home to central/south New Jersey, Move For Hunger has been fortunate enough to receive a grant from the OceanFirst Foundation almost every year since 2011.

This year’s grant of $15,000 could not have come at a more impactful time as the number of people considered food insecure is expected to rise by almost 50% going from 37 million Americans to well over 50 million due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Forty percent of people visiting food banks will be visiting for the very first time.

While New Jersey has one of the better food insecurity rates in the country at 8.9%, there still are almost 1 million people struggling to get food on the table and that was before the pandemic.

Over the past decade, OceanFirst has helped provide nearly 300,000 meals to those in need. Since its founding in 2009, Move For Hunger has delivered over 20 million pounds of food, the equivalent of more than 17 million meals with 25% of that coming from 2020.
