Meet Taylor Heideman, our Transportation Partnership Manager!

December 12, 2023

Welcome to our Meet the Team series, where we’ll be introducing the Move For Hunger Staff 1 blog and 9 questions at a time. We hope you enjoy getting to know our team members as much as we enjoy working with them!

We’re happy to introduce our Partnership Manager, Transportation Network extraordinaire, In House Energizer Bunny- Taylor Heideman!

What Do You Do At Move For Hunger?

I manage Move For Hunger’s growing transportation and relocation networks with a focus on partnership development. You can usually count on me to energize any room, I love connecting businesses to real impactful change in their own communities and Move For Hunger allows me the opportunity to do just that - across all 50 states and Canada!

Why did you join Move For Hunger?

I joined Move For Hunger almost 2 years ago because I was inspired by the organization’s impact in just 14 short years. The opportunity to impact communities across North America through a unique solution to food waste and hunger is an exciting and changing challenge every day!

What do you like about working at Move For Hunger?

Our members and partners that are responsible for moving over 37 million pounds of food!!! “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has” is one of my favorite quotes and I think it perfectly encapsulates what Move For Hunger’s network has done!

What’s something that you’re working on right now that you’re excited about?

I am in the thick of conference season right now and am always so excited to see our members, inspire others to get involved, and recognize the impact so many have made. This past year was monumental for Move For Hunger and I’ll think you’ll continue to see records breaking in 2024.

Who has influenced you the most?

I had a favorite teacher in high school who shared with me that when you get nervous and excited, your brain reacts the same way - so it’s up to you to decide how you want to feel in that moment. I have NO idea if that is factual, but that moment and Mr. McDonald has influenced many of my future decisions.

What food could you eat every day and never get tired of?

I am a BIG fan of pizza! I love trying different areas’ take on pizza - from the Chicago Deep Dish to the NYC slice, they all represent their area well! We also love to make a classic homemade pizza and might even throw it on the grill if we’re feeling adventurous (see what I’m saying- so many things you can do with pizza!).

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

“A good cup of coffee is always worth it” if you’ve met me, you’d understand!

What’s your favorite movie?

I have to go with the season and give my respects to The Santa Claus series. It was a staple growing up and I could still watch the first movie on repeat today.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
