Meet Monica Mizzi, Development Coordinator At Move For Hunger

May 21, 2025

Welcome to our Meet the Team series, where we’ll be introducing the Move For Hunger Staff 1 blog and 9 questions at a time. We hope you enjoy getting to know our team members as much as we enjoy working with them!

Meet Monica Mizzi, our Development Coordinator who brings data to life and energy to every project. She’s a true team player who keeps us moving forward. Let's get to know more about her and what fuels her passion.

What Do You Do At Move For Hunger?

I’m a part-time Development Coordinator. Basically a catch-all team player helping with reporting and supporting our awesome network.

Why did you join Move For Hunger?

The mission is powerful, but the people sealed the deal. This team works hard, laughs often, and somehow always keeps things fun, even in spreadsheet land.

What’s something that you’re working on right now that you’re excited about?

Something I'm excited about right now is creating presentations and impact reports. It might sound simple, but I love taking data and stories and turning them into something visually engaging and easy to digest. It’s a creative outlet that also helps highlight the real difference our work is making.

Who has influenced you the most?

My mom. She’s wise, thoughtful, hilarious, and resilient. I still learn from her every day.

What food could you eat every day and never get tired of?

Pasta. Any shape, any sauce. Comfort food perfection.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

Feeling scared usually means you're on the edge of growth. You don’t have to be ready, you just have to be willing. Because nothing changes if nothing changes.

What’s your favorite movie?

Tough call to pick just one, but I really love The Grand Budapest Hotel, it's quirky, charming, and makes the world feel a little more whimsical.

Make sure to check back in soon to meet new members of our team, and follow our social channels (@moveforhunger) to stay up to date on hunger news and the impact our network is making!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
