Nearly 30 MC Companies Properties continue their fight against hunger throughout the holidays, donating over 9,000 meals

January 31, 2024

This December, 27 MC Companies properties across the nation hosted a Seasons of Giving Food Drive for their residents, collecting almost 11,000 pounds of donations, equalling over 9,000 meals, for those in need.

MC Companies has been a partner with Move For Hunger since 2020, and has done an amazing job encouraging their properties to stay engaged in the fight against hunger! Just last spring, 24 MC Companies properties hosted a Spring into Action Food Drive for their residents where they collected almost 6,000 pounds of donations.

The top collector out of the 27 companies that hosted food drives this past winter was MC Corporate Office, located in Scottsdale, AZ! They collected over 3,000 pounds of food, which provided 2,500 meals for Midwest Food Bank of America. Special thank you to Premier Van & Storage for transporting the donations! In Maricopa County, over 400,000 people struggle to put food on the table every day.

In second place was The Place at Barker Cypress, in Houston, TX. They collected 800 pounds of donations that went to The Beacon Food Bank. This provided over 600 meals! A special thank you to Atlantic Relocation Systems for transporting the donations!

Third place goes to The Place at Harvestree, in Dallas, TX. They hosted a food drive that collected 700 pounds of donations, which provided 600 meals to Minnie’s Food Pantry. This could not have been done without Coleman Worldwide Moving, who transported the donations.
We are so thankful for the work that MC Companies has done, and can’t wait to see what they do next. These donations make a huge impact on their communities, especially with over 44 million people facing hunger in the United States.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
