Topple Hunger: Move For Hunger shatters GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title!

Calling all food enthusiasts and cereal aficionados! We've got some 'cereal'-ously exciting news for you - Move For Hunger successfully set a NEW GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the most cereal boxes toppled in a dominoes fashion (and trust us, it was 'gr-r-reat')!

With 12,952 cereal boxes officially toppled at the Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center, Move For Hunger shattered the previous record of 6,391 boxes.

However, this endeavor is not just about breaking a record; it's about raising awareness regarding the significant issues of food insecurity and food waste in the United States. Kellogg's and Kroger generously donated the cereal used in the topple attempt. And what's cereal without milk? The United Dairy Industry of Michigan contributing a gallon of milk for every box of cereal donated. Hellmann's, Lineage Foundation for Good, University Moving & Storage, and the Detroit Pistons also joined as sponsors and committed to a world without hunger or food waste.

After the successful topple, all the cereal and milk used were delivered to Forgotten Harvest and Gleaners Community Food Bank in Michigan, ensuring that the food doesn't go to waste and reaches those who need it most.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from. 

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more. 

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT 

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
