Esprit Marina Del Rey is a Summer SOUPer Star, and is Awarded Community of the Month!

September 7, 2022

Each month since January 2020, Move For Hunger crowns one of our amazing multifamily communities with the title of Community of the Month. To be awarded, the community named has  gone above and beyond, and we want to highlight the amazing work that is being done to help fight hunger!

For August of 2022, Move For Hunger is excited to announce that Esprit Marina Del Rey is our Community of the Month! We are so happy to have Esprit Marina Del Rey in our network of amazing companies, communities, movers and more! Esprit Marina Del Rey is managed by ES Ring Management Corporation and is located in Marina Del Rey, California.

Esprit Marina Del Rey joined the Move for Hunger team back in May of this year, and has helped collect and donate over 300 lbs of food to hungry families in Los Angeles County, California! This June, Esprit Marina Del Rey held a SOUPer Hero Food Drive in collaboration with Move For Hunger to help fill the panties of food insecure families this summer. This amazing community helped provide over 260 meals for distribution at LA Pride Pantry and we cannot be more grateful for their collaboration on this drive!

We love to be involved in our community, from donating food to items left behind," said Jackie Covarrubias with Esprit Marina Del Rey. "When we heard we could team up with Move For Hunger and the great things they are doing for the communities around us we felt led to partner up with them in way of support and acknowledgment of the great things they are doing."

We are so grateful for Esprit Marina Del Rey and all of their hard work this summer. We can’t wait to see what food drive they pull off next! Keep rockin’ it!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
