Bell Meadowmont Spreads the Love for childhood hunger, awarding them Community of the Month

April 7, 2023

Each month, Move For Hunger chooses a community that displays a dedication to ending hunger. For this March, Bell Meadowmont was awarded Community of the Month!

Located in Chapel Hill, NC, Bell Meadowmont is a Bell Partners property and participated in the Spread the Love Food Drive campaign. This food drive campaign encourages residents and employees to join the fight against childhood hunger and donate peanut butter and jelly.

Bell Meadowmont collected the most donations out of the participating properties donating over 230lbs of nonperishables, providing 195 meals to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Shoutout to CORT in Raleigh for delivering these donations to the communities that need them most!

Bell Meadowmont has been a partner with Move For Hunger under the Bell Partners umbrella since 2019. Since joining our network, they have collected over 340lbs  of donations, equalling over 280 meals, for local food insecure communities. Bell Partners has been an invaluable partner since 2019, and we’re beyond thankful for each and every one of their properties that has joined the fight against hunger!

In North Carolina, more than 1.2 million people are food insecure, with over 1 in 6 children not knowing where their next meal will come from. We’re beyond grateful for every community that has joined us in the fight against hunger!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
