AVE’s Season of Giving Food Drive Provides 3,000 Meals to Hungry Families

January 19, 2022

The holidays are a time to celebrate with family, a time to be thankful for what we have, and to assist those who need help. Our friends at AVE properties hosted a Season of Giving Food Drive in 11 of their locations from New Jersey and Pennsylvania to Texas and California.

Combined they collected 3,600 lbs of food which equals 3,000 meals to hungry families during the holiday season.

AVE Season of GivingStarting late November through mid-December, AVE Blue Bell Villas took the crown for collecting the most food with over 1,000 lbs at just the one property. A special thank you to Wayne Moving & Storage who took the food from the location in north Philly to the West Chester Food Pantry.

AVE, a Korman Community, was one of the first multi-family partners of Move For Hunger back in 2015. Since then, their properties have helped provide more than 35,000 meals to those in need.

The winter is always a difficult time for hungry families. People may have to wait in lines in the cold air to get food and many food insecure people are also homeless and sleep outside even in inclement weather. On any given night, there are more than 500,000 people sleeping on the streets in America along with 42 million people overall who are food insecure.

AVE is a shining example of the impact property management companies can have on their communities. Want to join our multi-family network? Click here to learn more

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
