Apex Moving and Storage Wins January Mover of the Month

February 17, 2021

Move For Hunger is so thankful for all of our transportation partners in our network. We love to highlight our movers for their commitment and dedication to our cause. This month we are excited to announce that Apex Moving + Storage is our January Mover of the Month! They won this award due to their hard work and diligence in January, transporting 8,600 pounds of food, which is over 7,000 meals!

The Tennessee based company works hard to deliver food to the Branch of Nasheville Food Bank! Apex Moving + Storage has collected a total of 403,693 pounds of food, providing 333,411 meals to those in need!

In Tennessee, nearly one million people are struggling with hunger, and one in four of them are children. Apex Moving + Storage loves using their resources to give back to the community and are delighted to be awarded Mover of the Month. "Thank you, we are honored,” they said. “Over 72 billion pounds of food goes to waste each year while more than 50 million go hungry. We take pride in being part of the reduction of waste and therefore have partnered with Move for Hunger. With so many vulnerable children, families and seniors that face hunger, we at Apex want to be part of the solution."

As more people continue to suffer from food insecurity, we are grateful for the support and dedication from all of our moving companies. Companies like Apex Moving + Storage are the reason Move for Hunger is able to accomplish all that it does. Click here to learn how you can start your own food drive!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
