AVE Holds Third Annual Hunger Action Month Food Drive

November 1, 2017

AVE, a leading corporate housing provider, held a food drive during Hunger Action Month at nine of their locations in New Jersey, suburban Philadelphia, and California. At each property, residents were encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, such as peanut butter, tuna fish, pasta, cereal, and canned fruits/vegetables, to help provide meals for their neighbors in need.

Thanks to the generosity of the employees and residents, the AVE locations were able to collect nearly 1,200 pounds of food combined -- that's enough to provide 1,000 meals!

The food drive would not have been possible without the help of several of our moving partners, who donated boxes for the collection and volunteered to deliver all of the donations to the local food banks.

Crown Relocations of New York picked up the donations from Clifton, Somerset, and Union and delivered them to Fulfill.

Two Men and a Truck of Westchester/Philadelphia picked up the donations from Downington, Lansdale, and Malvern delivered them to Manna on Main Street.

Harrington Moving & Storage picked up the donations from Florham Park and delivered them to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.

Wayne Moving & Storage, an Atlas Van Lines agent, picked up the donations from Newtown Square and delivered them to the West Chester Food Cupboard.

Gentle Giant Moving of San Francisco picked up the donations from Emeryville and delivered them to the San Francisco Marin Food Bank.

More than 42 million Americans, including 1 in 6 children, face food insecurity. Thank you to everyone at AVE for once again inspiring your residents to get involved during Hunger Action Month!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
