Apex Moving + Storage Helps a Pair of Schools Collect 2,500 LBS. of Food!

November 9, 2018

If you've been keeping up with Move For Hunger recently, you have probably seen the incredible accomplishments that our network of movers has made in 2018. From food drives and fundraisers to food rescues and more, our movers have collected more than 1.7 million of food this year for families all across the United States. One of those super dedicated companies is Apex Moving + Storage, an Atlas Van Lines agent, and we are so happy to hear that they are back at it with another pair of food drives!

ApexMoving+StorageHolidayFoodDrive2018_Kittrell (4).jpgThroughout the year, Apex Moving + Storage has partnered with various schools in the greater Nashville area to host food drives and help out their communities. This time around, they joined forces with both Stewarts Creek Middle School and Stewarts Creek Elementary School of Smyrna, TN.

What’s great about Apex Moving + Storage partnering with schools is that it teaches young students the importance of giving back, and they sure did give back! In fact, Stewarts Creek Elementary School collected 1,269 lbs. of food! The middle school also did an awesome job and collected 1,578 pounds! The Apex team delivered all the donations to the Nourish Food Bank in Smyrna, providing nearly 2,400 meals for Tennessee families in need.

With more than 967,000 people in Tennessee facing food insecurity, including 1 in 6 children, Apex Moving + Storage will make a positive difference in so many lives. They have collected well over 10,000 pounds of food this year, and even after so many successful food drives, it's so great to hear that they still have many lined up for the rest of 2018! To the Apex team, thank you so much for joining us in the fight against hunger - we are incredibly inspired by you!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
