Anchor Moving & Storage Delivers 3 Tons of Chocolate Milk to NJ Food Pantry

May 2, 2019

We are, of course, extremely thankful to have a network of more than 950 moving companies that have committed to reducing food waste and fighting hunger, but we are always extra appreciative of the ones who are willing to lend a helping hand at a moment's notice. That's exactly what happened when Anchor Moving & Storage, an Atlas Van Lines agent, stepped up to help their neighbors in need last month.

Balford Farms had collected a plethora of chocolate milk that they wanted to donate to their local food pantry, Touch New Jersey -- nearly 3 tons worth! Unfortunately, neither Balford Farms nor Touch NJ have the ability to transport such large quantities. When we reached out to Anchor Moving & Storage, based in nearby Moorestown, NJ, they were more than excited lend a helping hand! On April 18, their crew delivered 61 cases of half-gallon bottles of chocolate milk to Miguel's Pharmacy in Camden, where the beverages were immediately distributed to families in need. This was an especially thoughtful gesture during Easter weekend! Eleven days later, Anchor delivered another 98 cases of half-pints.

Thank you so much to Anchor Moving & Storage for delivering a grand total of 5,590 lbs. of chocolate milk to your neighbors in need! Special thanks go out to Balford Farms, Touch New Jersey Food Pantry, and Miguel's Pharmacy, as well, for your assistance!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
