Advanced Orthopedic Collects 950+ LBS. of Food

February 28, 2020

We share a common goal with the staff from Advanced Orthopedic Pain Management & Wellness Center: to help people who are facing hunger. That's why, for the second year in a row, we worked together to hold a food drive that would help hundreds of people in Advanced Orthopedic's community.

AdvancedOrthopediPainManagementCenterThanksgivingFoodDrive2019 (4).JPGLast summer, Advanced Orthopedic took a bite out of hunger by holding a Shark Week Food Drive. This year, they wanted to help provided holiday meals for their neighbors in need, so we organized a Thanksgiving Food Drive at their office in Newport Beach, CA from November 14-27. Employees were asked to donate non-perishable items, such as cranberry sauce, gravy, canned vegetables, instant potatoes, and pie filling to help set the table for a family in need.

Over the course of two weeks, Advanced Orthopedic was able to collect 950+ pounds of food, which provided nearly 800 meals to those facing hunger! Thank you to bringpro for picking up and delivering the donations to Second Harvest Food Bank in Orange County.

More than 4 million people in California are food insecure, including 1 in 6 children. Thank you Advanced Orthopedic and bringpro for your continuous support!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
