White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery Organizes 6th Annual Summer Food Drive

June 19, 2018

Even during the busy summer moving season, White Glove Moving, Storage, and Delivery, a Bekins agent is committed to fighting hunger in Florida’s Treasure Coast community. With the help of several local organizations, the White Glove team hosted their 6th annual summer food drive from May 30-June 18.

These meals make up for over half of the daily calories for many students. Once school lets out for the summer, it becomes much harder for these children to have access to nourishing and healthy meals.

In the Treasure Coast area, more than 26,000 children are food insecure. Every year, White Glove Moving, Storage, and Delivery makes it their mission to alleviate summer hunger in their community.

"It is so amazing to see the multitude of boxes overflowing with food and knowing that all of it is going directly to those families and folks who need it the most in our community,” said  Anna Valencia Tillery, White Glove’s Vice President of Marketing. “At White Glove Moving of Florida, we are really proud of all our business partners and customers who see the value in donating food and it is our pleasure to make participating easy by delivering and picking up all the boxes throughout the four-county area.  When we all do a little it equals up to be a whole lot.”

White Glove Moving, Storage, & Delivery collected more than 2,300 pounds of food, easily exceeding their goal of 1,000 lbs. Their donation to the Treasure Coast Food Bank will provide more than 1,900 meals to their neighbors in need.

Thank you to White Glove Moving, Storage & Delivery for always stepping up to help your community!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
