CHPA Raises $14,500+ at the Driving Out Hunger Golf Tournament!

March 6, 2020

Our partners from the Corporate Housing Providers Association (CHPA) hosted the first Driving Out Hunger Golf Tournament on February 23 during their Annual Conference in Austin, TX. The event was held at Wolfdancer Golf Club at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa and raised more than $14,500 to support our hunger relief and food rescue programs!

CHPAGolfOuting2020_5.jpgCorporate housing professionals from all across the country hit the links to support our mission to reduce food waste and fight hunger. Players could register for the tournament as a foursome or on an individual basis. More than $12,000 was raised at the tournament itself, which will help us provide 28,000 meals in 2020!

In addition to the tournament, our partners from V-Suites and Pinnacle Furnished Suites also held mini fundraisers throughout the day. Pinnacle Furnished Suites held a putt-putt contest which helped to raise $155. Meanwhile, V-Suites organized a unique competition at the hole they sponsored. For a small donation, players were tasked with trying to chip a pineapple into a net. And yeah, that was just as difficult as it sounds! Only 3 players were able to make it, and the contest brought in an additional $260 for our cause.

“I have played in a lot of golf outing but not sure if I have ever played in one with a better cause," said David Rios, Director of Operations for V-Suites. "We are so proud to have sponsored this amazing event."

We also held a pair of 50/50 raffles at the golf tournament and during the conference, which raised an additional $1,600 to support our programs!

CHPAConferenceAustin2020 (1).JPGThe event would not have been possible without the support of our sponsors: Pros Corporate Housing, Madison Hospitality, CORT, Pinnacle Furnished Suites, Fashion Furniture Rental, Travelers Haven, Ale Solutions, Gables Corporate Accommodations, Sunshine Rentals, Azuma, B&B Rentals, dlux Suites, Express Corporate Housing, Reside Worldwide, The Guild, AFR Furniture Rental, V-Suites, Zenya, Dominion Corporate Housing, Accessories Plus, Palmetto Linen Distributors, Temporary Housing Directory, PC Housing, Furnishings Unlimited, and ReloQuest.

Although the funds raised at this golf tournament will help Move For Hunger provide more than 30,000 meals this year, the sad truth is that 40 million Americans face hunger every single day.

Move For Hunger hopes to deliver 3 million meals this year - but we can't do that without your continued support. That's why any member of CHPA who makes a $25 donation by March 20 will receive an exclusive bamboo cutting board as a small token of our appreciation for your continued support.

Thank you again to CHPA, our sponsors, and all the golfers who helped us Drive Out Hunger!

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
