On Thursday, April 21, 2022, 3 members of the Move For Hunger team journeyed from New Jersey to Atlanta, Georgia to join a local team member. The Move For Hunger employees were combining forces to host the first truck pull of the year, and the second one since March of 2020!

HDTruckPull2022-89.jpegPicture this: It’s a warm, beautiful spring day in the heart of Atlanta. On the far side of the parking lot of the Renaissance Waverly Hotel and Convention Center are two HD Supply moving trucks with large ropes attached to the front.

Inside the hotel are nearly 200 HD Supply employees attending their Leadership Conference - unbeknownst to them, in just a small while, they will be broken into 18 different teams to pull those moving trucks to a makeshift finish line in the least amount of time. The day was filled with great music, laughter, determined men and women, inspiring speeches (one by our Executive Director, Adam Lowy), and team bonding. HDTruckPull2022-4.jpeg

Kroger joined in on the fun by donating 12,000lbs of donations, equalling 10,000 meals, for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, which was transported by Hilldrup from Kroger to the truck pull. Once the event was over, two wonderful HD Supply movers delivered the pallets to the food bank!

What is a truck pull? A truck pull is a unique team building event where a team of 5-10 people compete against another team of 5-10 to pull a moving truck that weighs up to 1,400 tons. The goal of the teams is to pull the truck a total of 100 feet in the quickest time possible. Whichever team has the fastest time are deemed the winners and win a fantastic medallion.

We’re so thankful for HD Supply for hosting this event and raising awareness on food insecurity, and Kroger for supplying the event with donations! In Georgia alone, more than 1.2 million people don’t know where their next meal will come from, including 1 in 6 children.
