Chadwell Supply Helps Provide 60,000 Meals in 2020

January 8, 2021

2020 has been impactful for all the right and wrong reasons. Like all of us, we wish this pandemic has never happened, but one of the silver linings is that it has put a spotlight on the hunger crisis in America which in turn has helped lead to a record year of food distribution. All-time, Move For Hunger has transported over 20 million pounds of food over the past 11 years, and 25% of that has come within the past 12 months.

This wouldn’t have been possible without incredible partners like Chadwell Supply. Chadwell Supply specializes in the multi-family industry providing anything from appliances, doors, HVAC equipment, lighting, and almost anything else needed to build a community. This past year they become a partner of Move For Hunger and through their support, we’ve been able to provide 60,000 meals to those in need.

Chadwell Supply is proud of the partnership launched this past year with Move For Hunger,” said Roy Price, partner of Chadwell Supply.  “We are excited to join their mission and to support this unique opportunity for our multi-family customers."

The need has almost never been greater than this past year and it continues into 2021. It’s estimated that food banks are receiving 60% higher demand than in previous years, and 40% of those people are visiting for the first time. Roughly 1 in 8 people in Tampa Bay, home of Chadwell Supply, is food insecure.

With their continued support, we hope to continue to make strides in the Tampa Bay community as well as the United States overall to help those in need. Want to become a partner? Go to our join page to learn more.

Inflation & food insecurity are on the rise

Cuts to SNAP benefits and inflation have had a devastating economic impact and filled the lines at food banks and pantries across the country. More than 47 million Americans including 1 in 5 children are struggling with food insecurity and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For people of color and other minorities, the situation is even worse. Hunger disproportionately affects the Black population, the Latinx community, LGBTQ+ individuals, and more.

USDA TERMINATES FOOD SECURITY REPORT

September 22: The USDA announced termination of future Household Food Security Reports USDA, which had tracked hunger nationwide for nearly 30 years. The most recent data revealed that one in seven households — 47.4 million people, including 13.8 million children — were food insecure. For more than three decades, the report was been the gold standard for measuring whether a household lacks consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. “Eliminating data collection strips away the evidence that proves these programs work, where investment is needed, and who is being left out,” Crystal FitzSimons, president, Food Research & Action Center said in a statement.
