Paxton Van Lines Pulls Double Duty in D.C.

March 13, 2018

On March 10, thousands of runners and walkers took the streets of our nation's capital for the Rock 'n' Roll DC Marathon, 1/2 Marathon & 5K. While this race is a favorite for many athletes, the size of the crowd also means there is an enormous amount of leftover food, water, and sports drink for the participants. To help ensure that this food is put to good use (and doesn't end up in a landfill), Paxton Van Lines, an Atlas Van Lines agent, volunteered their time, equipment, and staff to collect and deliver nearly 10,600 lbs. of food to the Capital Area Food Bank. This food is extremely helpful to support the after-school initiatives, mobile markets, and senior nutrition programs that the food bank provides to more than 84,000 people struggling with hunger in the Washington D.C. area. In the last five years, members of our network have collected and delivered more than 70,000 pounds of food from this race alone!

In addition to providing post-race food pick up, members of Paxton's staff, friends, and family laced up their shoes and turned their miles into meals on the course, too! Led by half marathoner Bill Paxton, the team had participants running and walking every distance and raised nearly $6,000 for our hunger relief and food waste reduction programs. Donations like these enable Move For Hunger to expand our network and ensure that food rescue is a regular part of the relocation process.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP PAXTON VAN LINES!
