Summer is just around the corner and it is by far the busiest time of year to move. Since we began in 2009, our network of movers has helped move thousands of people every year so we have a pretty good idea of how to make moving less stressful and more efficient.

2. Hire a certified professional relocation company
Everyone's heard the horror stories, so don't take chances with your property when choosing a moving company. Ask the salesmen if the company belongs to your state's moving association, an accredited van line or AMSA. Both van lines and moving associations hold their members to higher standards so you can rest easy knowing your valuables are in the hands of responsible professionals. You should also make sure to hire movers that care about the environment and are eco-friendly.
Another tip is to make sure you ask three different moving companies for price quotes. Then, you can pick the most cost-effective option rather than going to the first ones you can find. Chances are, you can save money without even knowing it.
3. Start early
Try not to wait until the last minute to get to packing! Start early and set goals for yourself to make it go by faster. If you are getting started early (2 months or more), try to pack at least one room per weekend. If you are packing a little more last minute (about 2 weeks) then you may need to pack 1 room per day. Either way, try to space it out so you take the proper time and care to pack your possessions properly.
4. Know your rights and responsibilities

5. Make A List (and check it twice!)
Keep an inventory of your valuable items and their condition. Make note of any visible damage to the moving boxes or unboxed items on delivery day.
6. Get your Driver's Contact Info
Provide the driver with your contact information should he have any questions about finding your new location. Get the 'driver's number as well as any available tracking information so you can keep tabs on your valuables while en route to your new home.
7. Do a Final Walkthrough
Do a final walkthrough of your home before the driver leaves. Check closets, attics, crawl spaces shelves and other areas for any items that could easily be left behind.
