Apex Moving + Storage’s Annual Turkey Giveaway Collects Over 140,000 Pounds

December 9, 2020

The people in Murfreesboro, TN likely had a full stomach on Thanksgiving thanks to Apex Moving + Storage and the local community. On Monday, November 23, Apex handed out thousands of pounds worth of turkey, stuffing, and more to the residents of Dickson County. Residents could pick up the food from the Dickson County Family YMCA and had to show proof of residency in the county. The food was all collected through generous donations in the weeks prior then distributed the week of Thanksgiving.

While Apex, an Atlas Van Lines agent, helps transport food all year round, this is their big annual event that seems to keep getting bigger and bigger. This year, they gave away 142,000 lbs of food which is about 120,000 meals. Any leftover food was transported to the Nourish Food Bank in Murfreesboro.

The extra generosity couldn’t come in a better year where food insecurity could rise close to 50% due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s estimated that over 50 million people are struggling to get food including over 6,000 people in Dickson County where about 1 in 8 people are food insecure pre-pandemic.

Food insecurity isn’t a new problem, and Apex has helped transport over 350,000 lbs of food since joining Move For Hunger in 2014. Most, if not all, of the food has stayed locally right in the greater Nashville area.
