403 Pounds of Food!

for Our Daily Bread Food Bank!!  This is enough food to provide over 310 life saving meals for those in need.  Thank you to everyone who made this drive such a success!!

FireFighting’s Finest Moving & Delivery of Fort Worth, TX has been recognized as Move For Hunger’s Mover of the Year for 2011 out of 250 moving companies in 39 different states. The Mover of the Year award is presented to the moving company that best exemplifies the philanthropic spirit of Move For Hunger.

In 2011 alone, FireFighting’s Finest delivered over 10,000 lbs. to the Tarrant Area Food Bank through consistent monthly collections as well as a number of food drives. That is enough food to provide for over 7,600 life-saving meals to those in need in the greater Fort Worth-Dallas area.

Please keep in mind that hunger is a year round problem. People often donate food during the holiday season, but the food banks struggle to provide meals to those in need every month of the year. Any un-opened, non-perishable items are welcome, the most needed items are: canned fruit and vegetables, peanut butter, jelly, canned soup, and pasta.

Micah and Kelli,  two sisters from Monroe, NC wanted to celebrate the Super Bowl in a different way this year.  Instead of plopping down on the couch with snacks, the two sisters decided to use the occasion to help others. They teamed up with Berger Moving and Storage (a Move For Hunger mover) and their local Harris Teeter Neighborhood Food & Pharmacy to fill-a-truck with food to benefit a number of pantries in their local area. 

With a little help from friends and family, they were able to collect over 6,000 pounds for the various hunger relief organizations. That is enough to provide for over 4,600 meals to those in need in the Monroe area.

We’d like to congratulate Kelli and Micah on their awesome achievement and their commitment to helping those less fortunate.

 from 6 local elementary schools. The Souper Bowl of Caring is a national organization that promotes philanthropy from young people around the time of the Super Bowl. Crown Moving & Storage, an agent of Wheaton World Wide Moving headquartered in Indianapolis, generously donated the boxes, trucks and manpower needed to safely deliver the donations to Gleaners Food Bank.

When all the donations were tallied up over 5,566 lbs. was collected, enough to provide 4,281 meals to those in need. Great job to the students of Key Learning Community, IPS #83, Rousseau McClellan #91, Meredith Nicholson IPS #96, Elder Diggs #42, Washington Irving #14 elementary schools.

Hey college students!  We need YOU to get involved with Move For Hunger’s College Can-Fest 2012! We’re organizing food drives at college campuses all across America and need your help.  Best of all, Move For Hunger will assist you every step of the way.

Here’s the steps on how to get started:

1. Sign  up for College Can-Fest 2012, here and fill out the form.

2. Move For Hunger will contact one of our awesome movers in your area-   They’ll drop off all of the boxes that you’ll need to collect the food donations

3. We can assist you with creating flyers and other materials to promote your food drive

4. Once the collection is over, our mover will pick up all of the donations and bring them to a local food bank (see, it’s that simple!). 

In years past, Move For Hunger has worked with Greek Life and other student organizations at colleges such as Emory University, Arizona State University, University of Houston, University of Tampa and Monmouth University, just to name a few (check out the pictures above for some really cool ideas).  This year, we are looking to get more students involved than ever before, so sign up and join the fight!

FACT: More than 500,000 people in the Coastal Bend area receive food assistance each year. Twenty-seven percent of those at risk are children. With times getting tighter these numbers are dramatically increasing. Thousands in our community need your help.

Move For Hunger presents its February Food Drive to benefit the Food Bank of Corpus Christi!

When: Unopened, nonperishable food items can be donated from February 13-March 13. Crocker Moving & Storage has donated collection boxes and will deliver your donations to the food bank at the end of the month.

Where: Collection boxes will be located at Gold’s Gym (6643 South Staples- Corpus Christi)
