In honor of National Senior Move Managers Week (May 13-19, 2012,) the National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASMM) has made a donation to support its philanthropic partner, Move For Hunger. Move For Hunger is a non-profit organization that works with relocation companies to pick up unwanted, unopened food from those who are moving and deliver it to local food banks across the country.

“One in six Americans is struggling to find their next meal,” said Jennifer Pickett, NASMM’s Associate Executive Director. “It’s a staggering statistic, and we are honored to support Move For Hunger’s fight to end hunger.” The National Association of Senior Move Manager made a $1 donation for each of their organizational members – totaling $750.00. “We hope our donation will empower others to do what they can to support this important program,” said Pickett. NASMM works to promote this program to their membership of qualified Senior Move Managers. Through the NASMM/Move For Hunger partnership, NASMM members have the ability to support Move For Hunger in their work with older adults and families.

According to Pickett, “The National Association of Senior Move Managers has partnered with Move For Hunger since 2010. The NASMM Board of Directors elected to support Move For Hunger because it compliments our members’ commitment to quality client service.” “Our partnership with NASMM just makes perfect sense!” says Adam Lowy, Executive Director of Move For Hunger. “Senior Move Managers have a much deeper connection with their clients and have the ability to pack up food donations on the spot. We’re thrilled to have NASMM as a partner in our hunger relief efforts!”

According to NASMM member Shell Culp of Smooth Transitions in Sacramento, CA, “Our business is all about helping people. Move For Hunger is a perfect way to tie our business and our commitment to assistance back to the community. Our clients LOVE the idea of helping the less fortunate in our community, and our involvement just seemed like a “Win, Win, Win” all the way around. It was easy to make the decision to be a part of Move For Hunger.

NASMM Member Donna Stone, A Time To Move, Boynton Beach, FL, agrees, “We are amazed to see the amount of food items wasted when our clients downsize. It gives us such great purpose to ask if they’d like to help a good cause. It’s amazing how much more willing they become to downsize even more. Move For Hunger is working with over 330 movers in 43 states and has collected more than 450,000 pounds of food. With the support of its partners, Move For Hunger is turning the average food drive into one of the nation’s largest, year-round service programs.

Move For Hunger – Real Estate Program  – Agent Highlight

Linda joined the Move For Hunger Real Estate Program back in 2010.  Linda has gone above and beyond by hosting two successful food drives at Desert Mountain Golf Course.  This year Linda connected with Dircks Moving Services to collect over 2,017 lbs of food.  This is enough food to provide more over 1550 life saving meals for those in her community.  Dircks Moving Services delivered all of the donated food to the Foothills Food Bank.

Congratulations to AMWAT Moving & Warehousing – in Tallahassee, FL for being honored as our Mover of the Month for April 2012. Since joining Move For Hunger in October of 2009 AMWAT has donated over 4,769 Pounds of food for America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend. This is enough food to provide over 3,668 life saving meals for those in need. In addition to food collections from their customers, AMWAT has held food drives with Gold’s Gym, Publix Food Store, FSU, and even their local brewery!! Last month alone they hosted two food drives in addition to the food they collected from customers relocating.

Please join us in congratulating AMWAT Moving on their effort to fight hunger in the their community. The support and enthusiasm of moving companies like AMWAT continue to provide an out-of-the-box solution to our nation’s growing hunger problem.

We are proud to announce that Move For Hunger has partnered with Mooney’s Relocation Specialists and the Delaware Valley Miata Club to collect food donations for the Community Cupboard Food Bank in Ambler Pennsylvania.

On Sunday, May 6 members of the Del-Val Miata Club gathered for their annual meeting, which was followed by a picnic at the Willow Grove Day Camp in Willow Grove Pennsylvania. This year Tom Kilduff, Vice President of Lowy’s Moving Service and a board member of the Miata Club, decided to take initiative to turn the picnic into the club’s first annual “Fill-A-Trunk” food drive to help support the local community. Members came together and collected 373 pounds of food for the Community Cupboard, which will provide 286 meals for people in need.

2,500 years ago some guy in Greece thought it was a good idea to run 25 miles to the neighboring city. Every year thousands of runners across the country put their endurance to the test by replicating his run from the town of Marathon to the city of Athens.

This year Move For Hunger teamed up with the annual New Jersey Marathon to turn the road race into a gigantic food drive and spread awareness about the growing hunger problem in the Garden State. We brought out the Move For Hunger red carpet to capture the runner’s achievement and collected food from participants and spectators during the expo and on race day.

Thanks to the help from the NJ Marathon team and all the generous participants we were able to collect 2,700 lbs. of food for local food banks. That’s enough food to provide 2,130 meals for the those in need.  Local moving partner, Lowy’s Moving Service, was on hand to help out with food delivery.

With Over 110,1570 people struggling to find their next meal in New Jersey alone, it has never been more important to come together for the less fortunate in our community.

The NJ Marathon team showed their true colors by donating an entire pallet of peanut butter which is a perfect, protein packed snack for the food bank.

Each packet of peanut butter has 5 grams of protein and is perfectly suited to be stuffed into  the weekend bags for hungry children.

Move For Hunger has teamed up with the New Jersey Marathon to turn the road race into a gigantic food drive. We’ll be posted up all weekend long, collecting food from the participants and spreading the word about hunger awareness in our community.

What does 16,000 naked college students and food insecurity have in common? Well, usually not that much, but on one magical evening every April, collegiate nudity helps feed the hungry and clothe the needy in Arizona.

The annual ASU Undie Run rallies together the undergraduate community to donate extra food from their dorms/pantries for St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance and an outfit of clothing for the local Red Cross. This year over 3,200 lbs. of food was collected, topping last year’s record and providing enough meals for 2,460 people.
