While in DC we made a visit to the Capital Area Food Bank serving the needy in the greater DC Metro Area. We met some great people who are passionate about helping those less fortunate. Check out the videos for a glimpse of the inner workings behind the organization fighting hunger in our nation’s capital…
Some facts about the organization….
The Capital Area Food Bank was established on Martin Luther King Jr Day in 1980, since that time they have moved over 23 million pounds of food per year in the DC Metro area. The food bank delivers to more than 700 partner agencies that work to distribute the food to individuals in the local area.
The Hunger Helpline, a program that connects those in need with the food bank’s services, has seen a 71 percent increase in calls from 2008 to 2009.
